  • Parent may request the "CBRS" without regard to the date on which the child's death occurred.
     

  • The child's death must have occurred at 20 weeks or greater.

     

About The Law

  • Bill signed into law, June 6, 2006

    • Passed unanimously in Florida House of Representatives (HB439; 118-0) and Florida Senate (SB746; 39-0).
       

  • Provides a legal definition for the medical condition of "stillbirth" in the State of Florida.
     

  • "Stillbirth" means an unintended, intrauterine fetal death after a gestational age of not less than 20 completed weeks.
     

  • Requires the Florida Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics, to issue a "Certificate of Birth Resulting In Stillbirth" (CBRS) at the request of the parent.
     

  • The person required to file the Fetal Death Certificate must notify the parent of a stillborn child of the availability of the CBRS.
     

  • CBRS is an optional document, at the parent(s) request.
